Most if not all public facing companies want to believe their clients and customers have a great experience using their services.
We are no different. But for us it goes beyond making great content that yields quantifiable results, while providing excellent customer care. We want everyone we deal with, from our clients to our suppliers, to feel valued and respected. Therefore we are big believers in promoting ethical business practices in all of our interactions.
The Importance of Treating Everyone Fairly
This starts from the first time a potential client reaches out to us, and it continues through our transparent budgeting practices, our culture of close collaboration, right up to how we pay our suppliers, freelancers and talent. Basically we are not in the business of ripping people off. Of course we value our time and our hard work, but we want clients to feel that they’ve got a great deal from working with us. But also that you had a great experience throughout. We want everyone to profit from the relationships we build, and if those relationships can develop and strengthen through mutual respect and care it will hopefully make people want to continue working with us.
However, If it is just for a one-off job we still place as much importance on working hard for our clients, leaving them with a good memory of the experience and a great piece of content that works. This is the balance we always strive to strike. Simply creating great video is not enough if the client finds us difficult to work with.
We’ve described in another blog the transparent approach we take when it comes to things like drawing up a budget. However it is worth reiterating because we feel that this kind of openness is worth talking about. We understand that price is a big concern for a lot of people. We will always be open about the way we price jobs, and provide clients with a line-by-line breakdown that reveals exactly how we reached our proposed budget. If there are challenges on the budget front, we will always be open and transparent in our discussions with you so that we can work together to find a deal that suits everybody.
Don’t Exploit People
We take the same approach to other areas like casting and securing freelancers to work on our productions. Over the years we have built up a roster of trusted and talented industry professionals that we use often. These are people we get on really well with and that have demonstrated real talent and hard work. Because we get on so well, treat everyone fairly, with empathy and respect both on set and financially, we are able to get favourable rates on freelancers who get regular work from us. However our rates will never drop beyond what could be considered exploitative. In fact, people have stated they have chosen to work with us over bigger paychecks because of how great their experiences have been.
In short, we try and treat everyone fairly. Video production is not simply about the end result, it’s about the journey to get there too. And it should be enjoyable and profitable for everyone as possible. We think that giving everyone a fair deal is the best way to ensure that. Our transparency allows us to be honest with the people we work with and in turn they respect that we are not in this business to get rich by making giant markups on their rates. They appreciate that with smaller budgets some goalposts have to be moved to make it work. But in the end, if we all work together towards a mutual goal we will all be better off in the long run.
