We’re finding ourselves getting busier and busier by the day. I’ve been meaning to start writing reviews on here of all the gear that we’re buying and using, but as every day brings a full schedule of things to get done, i’m still yet to start!

Paragon has enjoyed a great start to 2012. We came into January running and haven’t slowed down a bit.
Throughout this year you can expect videos, lots of videos; music videos, fashion videos, documentaries, adverts, short narratives, and everything in between.

We’re 100% committed to making the best content, and we’re passionate enough to go out there and find the videos waiting to be made.

We have a documentary ready to land in our portfolio from new friends in london. We have a music video in pre-production, to be shot in a 2 weeks time and we have new links with new ideas for content. It’s an exciting time for us.

On top of all this, we have a short film waiting to be shot that working with quirky camera technique throughout.

We are really pushing to make everything we want for Paragon to become reality.

With this said, if there is any way that you or your company want to get involved or link up with Paragon Pictures, just drop us a line on the contact page.

We’d love to hear from you.

Sam

http://www.indiegogo.com/Heroine

Hello. Just a quick one to let you know about Heroine. This is a short film about status, addiction and fantasy. A guy starts going out with the movie star of his dreams only to find out she is completely mental. From their the story goes down hill and he finds him self in a world of paranoia and no friends left to help him out. The film is a catalyst for heroin addiction and the effect the media has on how significant we think our lives are. The script is done now and we’re in the stage of trying to find funding to produce it. If you think you would like to see this film made then you can contribute at the above link. There are various contributions you can make and for each contribution you get a perk, from images from the film, posters, link to a download or a hard copy of the film when it is done. We would be grateful for any contribution you are prepared to make and we would make sure you get something back in return.

Many thanks to you and happy new year folks.

Chris Butler.

So it’s the end of FCP. Apple have given rise to the inbred love child of Imove and Final Cut. Why would you take something good and make it crapper, then take something crap and make it slightly better? You should just take something good and make it even better then get rid of the crap thing surly. Imove isn’t editing software. Don’t try and pretend it is. Now FCP users have to learn other software like Avid and Premier. Personally, I find Avid to be a bit clunky and long winded and premier is awkward and hard work. Some of the things they’ve done with FCX look good but it doesn’t seem to be any kind of substitute for FCP. I don’t need a program to tell me weather there’s one or two people in a shot. I reckon I’m fairly capable of finding that out by myself. It looks like an amateur tool and I think the things that it can’t do out way the things that it can do. Apple seem to moving into a consumerist market and now the only thing that made me want to buy an overpriced computer has gone. I’m not going to want to spent that kind of money on a computer for browsing the internet and making mediocre videos. I’m going to download the demo and have a look at it though so I’ll get back to you with my views.

The camera is the crux of all video production. Without it, nothing begins. 2010/2011 have been a major years for the production and advancement of digital video cameras.
All sorts of tools have been placed into a price bracket affordable to small production houses like ourselves. November 3rd brough two massive announcements from Canon and RED. Canon brought their digic 5 DSLR sensor to a more traditional video camera body in the C300.
RED produced an (almost) affordable package for their scarlett-X camera. (Which is nearly ready to ship and is due to increase in price for a workable set up, dont believe their hype)

The influx of DSLRS on the scene has meant that high definition 1080p has become the standard. The cameras out there now have advanced the possibilities of digital cinema. Canon have produced a really neat grain pattern on their C300, a grain pattern that resembles the organic structure of super16 more than the blockiness of digital sensors.

Things have changed so much in such a short space of time, even cameras like the PD150, that were cutting edge when i started making video are now obsolete. This is not a bad thing.

This is all a good, we’re at a place now where you can own a camera for under £5000 with a PL mount and an output that the BBC will consider broadcast-able to their HD channels. That is placing power to the people.

2012 is going to be our year. In 2012 we will show you what is possible with these cameras. We plan on taking this technology and producing art, that is after all what high quality video/film should be viewed as. Art.

Jack Warner (of warner brothers) once told a mail boy who became a great cinematographer (James Glennon, ASC) that
“If you want to know what the future will bring don’t ask a scientist, because they will tell what they see at the end of a microscope. Ask an artist, because they use their instincts. We are an art gallery. Don’t ever forget that.”

That is as true today as it ever were. We are producers. We are entertainers. We are advertisers. We are technicians.
But above all, We are Artists.
Paragon Pictures will never forget that.

We embrace 2012.

Sam St. John
